According to a WebMD Medical News article Published at American
College of Radiology Website, about 500,000 U.S. women take tamoxifen

definitively women should switch from tamoxifen, which has been the
standard treatment for more than two decades.?

The 500K number has been the boiler plate number for years -- although
this is the first time I've seen the 80K number.

Your answer may be a good approximation for 2004 (the article you cite
was published January 2005). Since then aromatase inhibitors ("AIs")
have garnered a lot of support among the oncology community I suspect
the actual 2005 answers may be quite a bit different. I'm looking for
retrospective 2005 numbers (experience-based) not prospective 2005
numbers (based on previous year data).

Thanks.

Dear 1800bobe,

Thank you for your clarification.

It's difficult to locate 2005 numbers as this year isn't over yet. I
was only able to locate data from articles published in 2005.

In any case I'll do further research and I'll let you know if I find
additional data for you.

Sincerely,
Bobbie7

Dear 1800bobe,

I have been searching on and off since yesterday and unfortunately, I
have not been able to uncover more recent data.

I will take a look again in a few more days and if anything shows up I
will post it here.

Sincerely,
Bobbie7

Hi Bobbie,

The answer doesn't necessarily need to be for all of 2005. So, for
example, if you found Rx data for the months of June or July and made
an extrapolation from there that would be OK too.

Hi 1800bobe!

I'll try again and hopefully I'll uncover some relevant data.

4.3 million dispensed prescriptions for tamoxifen in 2002

Hi Bobbie,

IMS is certainly the place to get definitive Rx data, but subscription
costs to their DB can be extremely expensive (way out of my budget --
their subscriber base is big corp.). Often, analysts that have access
to the data will post powerpoint presentations from some talk that
contains relevant data (for free). I've been sucessful at finding
relevant Rx data in this manner for other drugs of interest.

Best,
Jason

Hi Jason,

I'll do a few more searches for information contained inside
PowerPoint presentations and will let you know if I locate anything
useful.

Thank you,
Bobbie7
