From memory, Greenpeace started it's GE campaign in 1996.  I think
because in 1993 the US allowed GE as they stated it didn't need
"special regulation". The GE tomato was introduced in 1994 and in 1994
RR soy was approved for commercial growing (first grown in 1996
together with Bt corn).
