Please answer the following questions and show calculations.

1- The resting heart rate in mature horses is known to be 37 beats per
minute. A stable owner wishes to see if her show horses have a normal
pulse rate. The stable owner tested her 10 mature horse and the
number of beats per minute were found to be:

37, 38, 44, 35, 26, 30, 27, 25, 29, 26

A- Calculate the mean, standard deviation, and variance for the heart
rates of the show horses.

B- Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the mean heart rate of
the show horses.

C- Perform a test to determine whether there is a statistically
significant difference between the mean-heart rate of show horses and
the mean heart-rate of mature horses.

2- A pill is claimed to facilitate weight loss. However, past research
has shown that men in weight loss programs tend to gain weight. A
random sample of 10 men is collected and each individual is weighed.
The pill is administered and the same individuals are weighed again
after one month. The weights are:

Before After
195 180
191 166
164 172
181 192
187 165
178 153
175 173
164 158
198 190
153 152

A- Calculate the mean difference, the standard deviation of the mean
difference and the standard error of the mean difference.

B- Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the mean difference.

C- Perform a test to determine whether the mean difference of the
before and after weights are statistically significant.

3- A professor asked two groups of participants to read a passage and
later asked them to write down as many words as they could remember
from the passage. One group was given the title of the passage and
the other group was not. The professor expected that knowing the
title would improve work recall. The following two columns show the
data obtained.

Number of words recalled
No Title Group Title Group
14 25
10 19
20 18
15 21
17 18

A- Calculate the difference between the two means, the standard
deviations of the means and the standard error of the difference
between the two means.

B- Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the difference between the two means.

C- Calculate the estimated effect size for the difference bet ween the two means.

D- Perform a test to determine whether there is a statistically
significant difference between the number of words recalled for the
two groups.
