I'm looking for messaging server software that has a AOL IM (AIM)
gateway such that multiple users can work off of a single AIM account.
I will use this for a single AIM point of contact in our business.
Software can be Windows or Linux. It must be stable. Can be
commercial or open source just so long as it works.

Yes, I'm seeking a solution where multiple users at multiple
workstations each may see and participate in various IM conversations.

Do you mean mulitple user can sign-in to the IM with the same ID, at
sepearate workstation, and to receive the same IM message at the same
time?

You can use Lotus SameTime. The server runs on iSeries, Linux or
Unix. It may require having Lotus Notes/Domino though... Best of
all.. it's AIM compatible.

You could get the same behaviour by using email and having every user
use the same account, Gmail has support for conversations and updates
when there are new messages which would make it more IM-like.

For better or worse, my industry segment seems determined to stay on
AIM and no other. Thanks for the idea.

Aim@Work is not really an answer. I don't want all of my customers
joining into the same web conference or, in reality, a chat room. I
want multiple individual, one-to-many IM conversations.

Did you look into ACD Systems messenging product? Might not be around
anymore but it was developed by a friend of mine and was somewhat of a
flop as I understand. Might be free/cheap..? www.acdsystems.com

Gaim supports this type of activity. Gaim will allow you to logon
multiple times with the same account and share the messaging. It will
not kick someone off if they are on another machine -- and they will
see all the conversations as well.

I realize that GAIM and other IM Clients allow you to log in to AIM at
least twice, and this does satisfy half of what I want to do. The
active conversation with a single sales rep works fine, however, the
other sales reps cannot see the full conversation. They only see what
the customer is typing. Also, the responsibility for logging each
coversation falls to each client (we use Trillian and it logs the
conversation). I was hoping for a point that all logging can be done.
Perhaps a wonderful program/service like www.meebo.com could be
modified to work.

Hi Omaha,
Not sure of compatibility with AIM but MS makes a product called Live
Communication Server that would fit the bill. Check out the following

Word of caution though, might be a pretty spendy solution to acquire
and impliment. SameTime suggestion has some validity....

Good Luck!!
