I live in the Beacon Hill district of Boston, MA. I would like to have a high speed IPv6 network connection. Right now I use Comcast and its okay, but not what I'd like. My IP is dynamic (I'd prefer static, with v6 I should be allocated a block of addresses). I'd settle for a fast connection with IPv6 support via tunneling, but I'd prefer a real IPv6 connection right onto the 6bone. Talking to the help desks of the major ISPs in the area is like pulling teeth. They just don't get it. Most of them don't even know what the term 'IPv6' is. Its not even in their training manuals. Ideally, I'd plug in some device to some network drop (cable, DSL, fiber, whatever) and that device would then connect via ethernet to some wireless router (that I own) and dispense IPv6 addresses to my local computers (and IPv4 addresses to those devices that are too lame to do v6 yet). My problem is that I can't find such an ISP, can you? |

You could try verio, but I don't know if they will do a non commercial site: http://www.verio.com/access/ipv6.cfm I think you'd have trouble finding a residential provider of ipv6, after all not that many residential customers would use it. |

The Verio idea is a good one, I tried to email them and got this: "550 cannot deliver to usipv6@verio.net" so I'm betting they don't get a lot of requests for IPv6. I bet that if I call the number I'll run into the same level of ignorance I've found at other ISPs, but I'll give it a try next. The second problem will be that they are selling commercial grade solutions with commercial sized prices. If IPv6 is going to catch on, we need something that starts at $29/month just like v4 DSL/Cable solutions residential customers enjoy today. Hence my question, is there such an ISP or is the IPv6 migration stalled due to lack of availability? |

IPv6 migration is stalled because there is no real push to adopt it. As far as most people are concerned, IPv4 works fine. |

There is no real push to adopt it because every time there is something that is painful enough to force such an adoption someone creates a work around (NAT for IP addresses, then STUN for dealing with VoIP from within a NAT based network for example) that is less than ideal but more than enough to limp along. But I'd rather not get into some religious debate about such things. I'd rather find an ISP that supplies IPv6 connections to my location for a reasonable amount and at a reasonable speed and reward them with my monthly subscription payment. |
