It should work fine, it'll just run at the lower PC2100 speed.

Thanks for your comments, but to clarify, if I have a 512 PC2100 in
there already, I shouldn't add a 512 PC2700?

Although it is possible for that to work (I have seen it work before
in a system designed for 2700 with one 2700 and one 2100, the system
treated both as 2100), you may run into problems with that
combination. If you do decide to try it make sure that the company you
purchase it from has a reasonable return policy. Setting it up in this
combination will also eliminate any chance of your memory running in
Dual channel Mode. This is only an issue if you are really worried
about speed.
