The only way I have found to get this information is to grind it out,
one market at a time. For example, I visited the London Exchange and
found their press release area:
http://www.londonstockexchange.com/newsroom/releases/last6mths.asp
And discovered that in August there had been 2,994,509 "equity
bargains" (number of trades) in domestic equity, and 1,111,787 for
international equity.
The German DAX has a statistics page:
http://www.ip.exchange.de/INTERNET/IP/ip_stats.nsf/main/MAIN+-+Kassamarkt+Monatlich+Monatsstatistik+E?openDocument&Count=10000&Expand=1
where I found out that the total number of trades for all German
markets in August was 12,002,021. 8,879,083 of these were domestic
ordinary share trades.
Are you literally needing this information for every single country in
Europe, North America, and Asia? Or is there a list of major markets
that you want covered?
