I'm looking for a book- a collection of short stories- that I read
parts of about ten years ago and loved and then somehow misplaced. 
The author was male, I think he was Southern, and most of the stories
had gay undertones.  All of the stories in this collection were of
children.  I think the title had the world "children" in it too.  They
were disturbing stories, incest was fairly common subject matter.

I'm trying to remember what I know of the author. . . he was fairly
contemporary, but dead now (suicide?)  He also wrote a book (not very
well received) the title of which was something like "black on white".
 I believe he also worked on a few plays.

I know this is hardly any info, but if anyone could find the author 
of collection of stories, it would be much appreciated!

In accord with your description, Coleman Dowell was Southern (from
Kentucky), wrote a few plays, and committed suicide by jumping out a
window in 1985.  He was also the author of a book called  "White on

I'm confident that I have correctly identified the short story
collection the customer is seeking.  The author is Southern, wrote a
