Question:

I'm having a problem with Microsofts debugging program Dr. Watson.
Whenever I open up a folder that has multiple large video files Dr.
Watson interrupts and freezes the computer. The only way for me to
fix this is to wait several minutes for Dr. Watson to run it's course
or hit ctrl-alt-del->task manager->processes and choose drwatson.exe
and click end task.

After searching the net for my own fix, I discovered many websites
that tell you to go to the registry and do the following:

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug
Name: Auto
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0 disable
Value: 1 enable

After doing this, my computer no longer freezes when I open the
folder, but instead I get an error window that says "ActiveMovie
Window: explorer.exe - Application Error", then I hit the ok button,
the screen goes blank and the movie folder closes and I have access to
my desktop again.

I am currently running the following:

WinXp Profession Version 2002 SP2
Intel P4 2.53ghz with 1 gig of ram.

I had the same problem with my Dell laptop when I first got it but I
somehow disabled Dr. Watson and I was able to access all of my movie
folders again. But I don't remember exactly what I did.

Solution: I would like for someone to explain to me how to fix this
problem. How do I disable Dr. Watson so I can gain access to my movie
folders. As it is, I have alot of edited road racing movies I want to
edit but I can't get access to them because the second I open up the
folder, I get the corresponding error window.

Here is the Dr.Watson log I get when I open up the Dr.Watson.exe and
review the log:

Research points to this being a codec problem. Quite specifically:
(0000000002cf0000 - 0000000002d03000: C:\WINDOWS\system32\xvid.ax
The xvid codec has caused this error on other systems, according
to the post by zerorider on the daniweb tech forum:

I won't post this as an official answer until I hear confirmation
that uninstalling this codec resolves your problem. Let me know.

Sweet thanks sublime. I ended up uninstalling the xvid codec but the
problem was still there. I then followed your link and uninstalled
the divx codec and that solved the problem.

Since I know it's a codec issue now, I can experiment which different
versions. But uninstalling the codec means I'm going to have problems
encoding in divx or watching videos encoded with Divx...solve one
problem and another one crops up. Damn.

Thanks alot...

I apologize for having addressed my posts to eriks19841004.
It was a copy/paste error, and very much unintentional.

Well I had the same problem and after watching my DRWatchon log file
I finally found the source of the problem\
I had Piannacle Studio 9 installed and the problem was with
pvmjpg21.dll (Remove all entries from Registry) and all is OK now
