What a great time to be in Paris! The weather is continental (à la
Chicago), dry clear and warm.

There are dozens of COMMERCIAL expositions in Paris in September, so
I’ve provided the web locations of major exhibit halls and those trade
shows that are closest to your description. If you do a Google search
in French of “expositions,” you’ll actually receive more than 100
different exhibitions – many of them related to the fine arts.

Don’t worry about the language – most of these pages have English
versions. For those that don’t, Google has a translation feature!

This page includes a very complete list of conference centers and
hotels with major exhibit space:
http://www.conworld.net/dir/europe/france/Paris.htm

Like New York, San Francisco or any other major convention center
here, the large exhibitions are done in the major exhibit halls, but
many specialty groups use hotel conference space.

Here’s a summary of what’s going on next month in the major exhibit
halls and there are at least two shows that fit your request:

CNIT (La Défense): http://www.cnit.com/en/agenda/index.jsp
Sept. 2-4: Worldwide clothing industry fair
Sept. 18-21: World textiles

Paris Expo – Porte de Versailles:
http://www.parisexpo.fr/en/general/info/agenda.jsp
Sept. 6-9: : International trade show for children's and babies'
fashion

Carrousel du Louvre:
http://www.carrouseldulouvre.fr/en/general/info/agenda.jsp
Sept. 20-29: antique show

Espace Champerret: http://www.espace-champerret.fr/en/general/info/agenda.jsp

Personal contacts with the commercial office of any of the 10 French
consulates in the United States may pay dividends in finding people in
your area of interest. They'll certainly be aware of specialized
trade groups, which tend to be centralized in Paris. The commercial
officers are paid to make contacts like you’re seeking – and may
provide personal introductions better than is possible at a trade
show. The consulates are listed here:
http://www.france-consulat.org/

Paris has excellent coverage of fine arts activities in Le Monde,
which is the New York Times of France:
http://www.lemondedesarts.com/Exposparisact.htm

There are also several excellent city guides, L'Officiel des
Spectacles and Pariscope. Pariscope is available on-line at
http://www.pariscope.fr/

Bon voyage!
