I believe you're remembering the end of the 1983 film "Gorky Park."
The animals that are released from their cages are sables. There is a
beautiful scene of the freed sables running through the snow. This
scene is also in the book, described here:
"Gorky Park by Martin Cruz Smith. At the end, after a brutal encounter
with a ruthless American businessman Renko finds the sables who were
the Macguffin for the murders in the park. He thinks about killing
them, but ultimately goes to the cage, opens it, and sets them free.
Cruz ends with a description of them scurrying into the woods in a
paragraph that is pure poetry."
