Right.. here goes. First Consider / Common Pitfalls. If you have dynamic content and especially information that requires cookies/login then how is the search engine going to view this. Search engines tend to spider your site then schedule you for another check. At the point of the next check if the site content hasnt changed, then the search engine may increase the interval between its next checks. If your site frequently has updated content, and other sites on google frequently link to these pages, then the search engine will reduce the interval between checks. META Keywords/Content - Remember to place relevant keywords in your html tags. Non relevant keywords may damage your search weighting. robots.txt - in a lot of cases you can place a robots.txt in the docroot of your webserver to tell the search engines specifically which pages to spider. However, it is generally best to ensure you link internally within your site. Sitemap - Link to a sitemap on the index page of your site (first page the search engine will hit). Make this a standard link to the sitemap page, avoid javascript. The sitemap page can be dynamic, but once again avoid javascript links. Soon enough the search engines will spider every non secure page on your site! Dubious Solutions Mod Rewrite - This apache module allows you to rewrite URI's e.g http://www.test.com/test/My_Category/My_New_Product/226/ may be rewritten to http://www.test.com/test/products.php?id=226 This would allow a search engine to have more search hits on the url itself... however i have yet to decide if the advantages are worth it for the problems. As far as search engine optimisation goes, submit your link to Google, wait out the sandbox period.. there are premium services also which im sure will speed up the process. |

There is a great SEO (Search Engine Optimization) company called Blast Engine. It is located at: http://www.blastengine.com Blast Engine has a one-time plan as well as a monthly plan. The monthly plan is $9.95. They have a claim of submitting your listing to over 1,000,000 directories. I'm sure they submit your information to tiny directories that hardly anyone visits. But, they also submit to the big guys (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Excite, Lycos, etc). I have noticed results since I started about 20 days ago. They resubmit your listings with the monthly plan. They also provide a service for monthly subscribers called Website Surveillance. This monitors your site to make sure it is up and running. Their system checks your website every 5 minutes. If there is ever a problem, you will receive an e-mail or a SMS text message to your cell phone to notify you. Blast Engine says Website Surveillance doesn't use bandwidth and it doesn't register hits on a website counter. I hope this helps you. This service is working pretty well for me. JayNick |
