I don't think there was any particular event in French history known
as the "Champ de Massacre". (In fact, it looks like a direct
translation into French of "killing field".) You may be referring to
the Massacre of the Champ de Mars, which took place in 1791 - after
the Revolution, but when Lou XVI had been reinstated - when the
national guard fired on people protesting at this re-instatement.
