Question ID: 60199
Can anyone provide me with good and recent data showing the most
popular baby / juvenile products sold online? That is, in the
category of baby / juvenile consumer products sold via e-commerce, is
there a product or products, e.g., car seats, that people buy more of
than other products?

Hi infoseeker9876-ga,

Is it absolutely essential that you have these numbers for e-commerce
sales only? The problem with this is that many retailers combine
online and brick-and-mortar sales, and so it is very difficult to
split these two apart.

What I could do is provide an answer in terms of overall sales and
then give you an analysis of how this might change for e-commerce
distribution. Would this be suitable?

Also, how recent do you need the data to be? For this type of
all-encompassing information, the most recent available information is
usually about 2-3 years behind the current year. For example, I was
able to find stats for 1999, however it did give a forecast for
upcoming years so that information may be valuable to you...

Thanks,

Hi answerguru,

Thanks for your response. I sort of suspected that this information
would not be easy to come by. I really do prefer to have
hard-and-fast e-commerce-specific data rather than an extrapolation
from combined figures. Also, to be honest, I tend not to put much
stock in forecasts of this nature. Thanks very much for your time in
any case.

Hi again infoseeker9876-ga,

I understand you not being interested in the sort of information I
have come across at the price level you are offering. If you would
like to see it, however, you can post another question directed to me
for a price you think this information is worth.

Unfortunately you don't seem to be having much luck with this question
:(

Good luck in your quest!

Hello infoseeker9876-ga,

I have found an online report costing $3,250 entitled "The U.S.
Infant, Toddler, and Preschool Market". Here is a description :

"This all-new report analyzes the $20-billion infant, toddler and
preschool market. It provides comprehensive coverage of four product
categories: clothing (apparel and footwear), baby care supplies
(diapers, skincare and toiletries, and baby feeding accessories),
juvenile furniture and nursery accessories, and toys. Included are
data on market size and growth (retail sales estimates for the
1995-1999 period and forecasts through 2005) and con-sumer
demographics. Assessment of the competitive situation includes
profiles of major marketers and retailers.

Categories Covered:

Clothing (Not diapers)
Apparel
Footwear
Baby Care Supplies
Diapers
Skincare/toiletries
Baby Feeding Accessories
Juvenile Furniture/Nursery Accessories
Hard Goods (cribs, car seats, etc.)
Soft goods/Nursery Accessories (bedding, home décor items)
Toys (Not the majority of dolls and plush toys, crayons or craft
supplies)

Issues Addressed:

Product Safety
Market Size and Growth by Category
Factors Affecting Market Growth
Industry Trends
Demographic Information by Category
Internet Influence
Population Trends
Consumer Advertising Expenditures
Consumer profile "

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, or even something
within your budget, but I'm just checking anyway. If so, and if I were
to point you to this report (you would need to purchase it), would you
accept it as a suitable answer? Do let me know.

Looking forward to your response,

Hi Kyrie26,

This sounds like a great report--very much on point. Unfortunately,
it's too expensive for me at this time. I greatly appreciate your
time and effort in any case.
