Hi. I need a listing of the makes and models of boats that have been
sold in the United States since 1985. The listing should be broken
into 1) Powerboats & Motorboats, 2) Sailboats, and 3) Small boats
(like kayaks or canoes). Many of the models will have 5 or more
entries, with only the number (usually the length) being different. I
would like the make and model name with and without the corresponding
numbers. This listing needs to be in a simple text format, with one
model per line with a hard return, as follows:

Maunfacturer Model (no comma)

EXAMPLE:
Boston Whaler Outrage
Boston Whaler 190 Outrage
Boston Whaler 210 Outrage
Boston Whaler 240 Outrage
Boston Whaler 320 Outrage
Boston Whaler 320 Cuddy Outrage

I prefer that the file be posted on a website, and made downloadable via a link,
rather than be posted here.

Thank you.

boater2005-ga,

I did a bit of looking around on this one, and it turns out there are
more than 5,000 manufacturers alone.

I'd guess there are in the neighborhood of 50-100,000 types of boats,
and upwards of a million once you start throwing in variations on
individual models.

I doubt that this question is answerable as it is currently asked.
And frankly, I don't have a suggestion for how you might re-craft it.

The only list that seems available is a list of the 5,000+
manufacturers, OR a list of the makes/models from a single
manufacturer.

Let me know what you think,

Thanks for the input--I didn't realize there were so many. I would
rather have the list of Manufacturers. If possible, would you also
include one of the lists of models within a manufacturer so I can see
how detailed it is? If I need that much detail on some of the
manufacturers, I will ask for you to do it. Thanks.

Here goes...you can download the list of manufacturers here:

This is a temporary link, so please be sure to save it to your local system.

I also took a look at the current models for Boston Whalers, which are:

==========

Sport / Montauk

110 TD

110 SP

130 SP

I'm sure if you went back in history a decade or so, you'd find quite
a few additional Boston Whaler models to add to the list as well.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you on this.

Cheers,

search strategy -- Google searches on various combinations of boat
manufacturer names led to the identification of several lists of
manufacturers, which were extracted and combined into a final list.

Good, fast answer. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
(I have downloaded the list. Would you please go ahead and remove the
link? Thanks!)
