Hi there, I'm currently the proud owner of a 2005 Prius, painted black
with a grey interior. On the dashboard is (was) black plastic
paneling on the dashboard and on the sides for interior trim. However
after a visit to the car wash, the trim turned a dark shade of maroon!
After querying the car wash guys later, they were less than helpful
on the chemical. So I'm hoping someone can answer:

1) What did they put on my car?
2) What is the best way to take it off?

Thanks in advance for your answer, and if your proposed solution
works, I'll give a $20 tip on top of the answer :-)

It seems to me you will need to find out what they used in cleaning
your car to cause a reaction to change the color of the interior trim.
Did you look at the bottles/cans of cleaning products in the car wash?
Do they use a particular line of products? If you don't feel
comfortable with going back and askings them, have you thought of
asking a friend to go check? Can you tell us the name of the car wash
and where it's located? Is it an independent or part of a chain or
franchise? Which?

Ok after talking with the car wash today, he dismissed me rather
snobbishly claiming "the car was like that" which I know better, and
at my option might escalate the complaint. But he did mention that
they use "armorall". Any further clues with that knowledge? Thanks!

I won't post as an answer since it is impossible to tell for sure,
but, believe it or not air freshener has been known to peel the paint
off of Audi plastic parts revealing the red beneath. Quite possibly
this is what happened to you.

You might check to see if they hung an air freshener that became wet
or sprayed air freshener in the car.
