What is the salary range for speech writers? I'd like to know the average for Washington DC political speech writers, the average for Senate speech writers, and the range for White House speech writers (and I don't mean from the Washington Post article that gives vague information. For just this much, I'd pay $40.00 Also, if you can find out that salaries of some of the big-name senators (Clinton, Schumer, Feinstein, Frist, George Allen, and/or others), I would go up to $60. If I'm particularly impressed, I might go up to $75. FOR BOTH PARTS OF THE QUESTION, I need to know the sources you used. I only want very reliable source (not vague information like what I might find myself on salary.com). Thanks. |

I used to work for a US Senator. There was no speech writer, per se, on the staff. Instead, each staffer would be expected to write speeches covering their particular subject area, and these were reviewed and, if needed, polished up by senior staffers, such as the Legislative Director, Staff Director, and press person. |

Yes, I'm aware that some offices handle the matter differently. I'm interested in knowing the answer for those offices that do have a person dedicated to writing (even if it involves more than speechwriting). |
