I am interested in the history and all background behind a photograph
called "NEW YORK" taken by Robert Mottar, 1959. The poster is listed
for purchase at the following location:
http://www.art.com/asp/sp-asp/_/pd--10080883/New_York_1959.htm

I believe I also saw the same building under construction in a
"tickertape parade" scene from movie: "The Right Stuff" (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086197/ ).

Answer should include information about the building itself,
companies/organizations involved with its construction, details and
various facts about its architecture, and present owner/condition/use.

Many thanks!

Dear ccableman1704-ga,

The building in the photograph is One Chase Manhattan Plaza, New York,
and is currently occupied by JPMorgan Chase & Co.

A copy of the image appears on Getty Images.

If this link does not work, search for ?chase manhattan building?

You will see caption states ?19th August 1964: 3,000 men who helped
build the 810 ft high Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City stand in
the window spaces of the building near the end of the constructional

This date appears to be a mistake and the height is 3 feet short as
the information below clearly indicates the building was finished by
the summer of 1960. This matches the date provided by yourself.

This is the additional information you requested:

All these sites provide additional information on the building and its
present condition.

This German language document (page 37/8) provides additional
information on how the photograph was taken, but because the pdf is
locked, I cannot put it through the Google translator to give you an
idea of what it says.

Search strategy
Found a reference on amazon.com through a9.com to Mottar and Chase
Manahattan Bank. Then searched on this at Getty Images to confirm it
was the same image. Then expanded the search to obtain the above
information.
