You should be able to query the EPA regional offices for this
information. My guess is that regions 6, 7, and 8 will be of
particular interest for beef cattle (Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and
Colorado). If you are also interested in dairy cattle operations, be
sure to specifically ask for that information as well. You should be
able to get the EPA regions' contact information through the website:
http://www.epa.gov/epahome/locate2.htm.
You should also be able to get specific information on CAFOs from the
individual states' departments of natural resources, etc. - for
instance Missouri at:
http://www.dnr.mo.gov/wpscd/wpcp/wpp-map-gallery.htm.
In either case, you will need to contact someone by phone or mail at
each office to get the specific GPS information and/or street
addresses and feedlot sizes that you want. This should all public
information. If they are reluctant to give you the information, there
is always the freedom of information act. Web postings and maps are
generally limited to delineating AFOs from CAFOs (1000+ animal feeding
units), are not complete in regards to all of the states, do not
include GPS coordinates or addresses, do not include the exact number
of animal feeding units, and/or arenot current. - I hope this helps. |
