On 28 March 1903, Ireland defeated Wales 2-0 in an international football match. I need the line-ups of both teams and the names of the scorers. A tip will be offered for additional relevant information relating to this match - match report, trivia etc. I know that the match was part of the British Home Championship, a tournament which ended in a 3-way tie between England, Ireland, and Scotland. |

Dear paultoon-ga, The match was played in Belfast. The scorers is a matter for dispute. The Times of Monday 30th March states it was Goodall part way through the second half and Sheridan in the last minute following a melee in front of the goal. The Penny Illustrated states it was Goodall and Connor. A copy of the Penny Illustrated report of the match can be accessed on the link below. The Times at your local library. http://www.collectbritain.co.uk/system/paper/index.cfm?fuseaction=paper.article&refId=%2FPEN%2F1903%2F04%2F04%2F6%2FAr00600%2Exml&collection=PEN&searchtext=football%20&place= The teams from the Times report. Thanks again answerfinder. I will be posting similar football questions over the next few weeks so do keep your eyes open! (I couldn't access the Penny Illustrated report ("Error reading\ the zip file") but guess that may be a problem with the site rather than your link) |

Dear paultoon-ga, I tried it again Sunday 3.30pm UK time and there is obviously something wrong with the site. I get the same response both for the direct link and a fresh search from the newspaper home page. http://www.collectbritain.co.uk/system/paper/index.cfm Search> Football Wales Date range: 1 April 1903 to 14 April 1903 Should be four responses. The last one is yours. Penny Illustrated Page 6, 4 Apr 1903 answerfinder-ga |
