I am looking for a nativity made by an artist named Mr Giuseppe De
Tommasi. The nativity is made of papier mache and terra cotta and only
has the individual people and animals in it. There are 10 pieces in
all. There are 6 people and 4 animals. The figures standing are
approximaly 10 1/2" tall. There is no stable. This artist and his
works are truly amazing. My sister bought this particular nativity a
few years ago. Surely a man with his talent must still make such
beautiful pieces. I have searched and searched and cannot find
this particular nativity. After many months of searching, I did
finally find a woman who claimed she knew him and said she even talked
to him and emailed me and told me he would make me a nativity, but
that still hasn't happened. I would like to contact him directly and
see if he still makes nativities and where I can buy them. Does
anyone know how I can get this particular nativity and also how to
contact the artist directly? Thank you, Phyllis Nelson |

Bobbie, Thank you for responding to my question. I have actually been on
Mr. G. De Tommasi's website, but the problem is that I cannot get an
answer from him at that website. I tried clicking on the email link
and sent an email to his website/gallery but no answer. The lady I
had mentioned below
in my original question said Mr. De Tommasi does not speak English.
Can you interpret for me? We are so close. If you click on the
nativity, 5 pieces that you sent me, it is the right nativity. These
pieces look like the nativity I am looking for. If you read below,
even though it is in Italian,it says terra cotta. I need all the
pieces to the nativity. This is just the family, Mary, Joseph, Jesus
and probably what Jesus is laying on is one of
the other pieces. The set my sister has actually 11 pieces, Mary,
Joseph, Jesus, the tree wise men, a shepherd, two donkeys, a cow and a
camel. The sizes of the figures standing is approximately 10 1/2"
tall. I did not convert his measurement for the Holy Family that was
listed in centimeters. My mother bought my sister this nativity 4
years ago. The store only had one set. She recently passed away and I
so much want to have the same nativity as
a memory of my mom. I have been trying to email this lady who knows
Mr. De Tommasi for 11 months now and she says he has one ready, but
then she says it has two angels in the set. I do not want angels in
the nativity, only the pieces I mentioned above. I just don't know
how to communicate with Mr. De Tommasi in Italian. Surely, he must
have someone there who speaks English. His works are truly amazing.
I love the terra cotta and papier mache and I love the size of the
figures. They are not huge and not tiny. I appreciate your help and
look forward to your help. Thank you again, Phyllis

bobbie7-ga,
i want to say how much i appreciate your trying to help me get this
nativity. i don't understand how an artist does not have someone who
reads, writes and speaks English, the most used language in the world.
i guess i could post another question and ask if someone speaks
Italian and can interpret for me to does not have his web site sit up
in English. He made these nativities for
Vietri several years ago. Maybe my question could be if someone at
Vietri can tell me the distributor Vietri ordered the nativities
through since they must have ordered them through a vendor/distributor
because Mr. De Tommasi does not speak English to have communicated
with Vietri and Vietri sold hundreds through their company. i don't
know. i'm confused. That is why i tried this Google ask a question
thing. Google is amazing to have thought of this service. It's
great. Two brains are always better than one. i appreciate your help.
I will keep trying. Have a Merry Christmas.
Thanks again, Phyllis

Bobbie,
I wrote Vietri and asked if anyone there spoke Italian so they could
order me the nativity from the artist they bought from several years
ago. Vietri is Italian dinnerware, etc. so I'm hoping someone there
is Italian. Vietri had sent me a picture of the nativity a year ago.
I never thought of them getting in touch with the artist. At that
time, I didn't know Mr. De Tommasi's website. They probably didn't
either. Anyway, I'm tired and rambling.
Happy Holidays!!
Phyllis
p.s. I'm sure an angel will sit on your shoulder during this holiday
season for being such a nice person trying to help people. Thanks
again.
