Music download: a product or service? I want to know why companies that sell music downloads over the internet are performing a service and not selling a product. |

Hi, Selling music downloads over the internet is termed as a 'service' because there is no transfer of actual physical substance. In a music shop you buy a CD and get a case, booklet, the CD etc... but with music downloads all you get is a digital stream of data, so you pay for bandwidth and copyrights, which cant be termed as a product, therefore, a service. much like when you use the internet you pay your ISP (internet service provider) and you dont get an actual product, but rather, pay for a service. |
