I am looking for material to make a powerful point. My contention is
that certain behaviours have an almost universal sense of abonimation
associated iwth them.

I am looking of examples of canniblism. whether from recent times or
past. I am looking for details, meaning to say that X tribe living in
Africa was cannbilistic is of little use to me. The more sensational
the better. If the event is from recent times and specificly from
Western culture it is even better. Ie, a newspaper account of a family
in the Ozarks who celebrated the Thanksgiving dinner over human body
parts... would be great

There are quite a few grisly true stories of cannibalism here:

http://www.mayhem.net/Crime/cannibals1.html

http://www.crimelibrary.com/criminal_mind/psychology/cannibalism/5.html

http://www.rotten.com/library/death/cannibalism/

Are these links on target? If so, I'll be glad to gather more.

Dear proffesor-ga;

Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question. Here
are some references to notorious cannibalism that fit your criteria
(incidentally, I live in the Ozarks but that doesn?t give me any
special insight into cannibals ? LOL)

In addition what has been offered above here are a hundreds (if not
thousands) of notorious cannibalism references - and filled with
grisly details and in some instances with graphic images. . . BEWARE:

Thank you these are good examples of sociopathic cannibilism. one more
thing would be helpful an example or two of a society that accepts as
normal practice, the idea of killing and then eating human flesh. Ie
Aboriginal tribes.

Certainly?

As you requested, here are some cultures wherein cannibalism is or was
an accepted practice:

Some Neanderthals are believed to have practiced cannibalism:

Marco Polo reported tribes ranging from Tibet to Sumatra who practiced cannibalism:

. . . . . . .

Caribs, native people formerly inhabiting the Lesser Antilles, West
Indies, practiced cannibalism. In fact, the original name by which the
Caribs were known, ?Galibi?, was corrupted by the Spanish to Caníbal
and is the origin of the English word ?cannibal?.

It may be considered a stretch of the imagination, but some people
argue that adherents to Christianity practice of a form of ?ritual
cannibalism? through communion which involves the symbolic drinking of
blood and eating of flesh. In the Holy Bible Jesus instructed his
disciples to remember him by drinking wine and eating bread. He said
of the wine and bread, ?Take and eat, this is my body which shall be
broken for you. And taking likewise the cup, he said: This is my blood
which shall be shed for you; when you do this, do it in memory of me.?
The practice is still widely observed to this day.

Ah, Proffesor, finally a question that we can really get our teeth into.

An interesting factor is that cannibalism seems to be so generally
abhorrent that apparently in many if not most countries there is no
law against it. "People just don't do that!"; whereas laws against
many sexual practices - that no one used to mention but were
obviously recognized to exist - were outlawed.
(Perhaps because Moses had to deal with them, but not with
cannibalism, as far as I know.)

Tutuzdad refers to a German case, but the link is to a "mild" report.
The following provides the sensationalism and abomination. The two
blogs may be superfluous, but I found them first.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2003/12/08/do0801.xml&sSheet=/opinion/2003/12/08/ixopinion.html
http://www.lies.com/wp/2004/01/31/armin-meiwes-euthanasia-by-cannibalism/
http://www.margaret-marks.com/Transblawg/archives/000622.html

The first site below mentions the lack of laws on the subject. The
subsequent ones just underline the point, again with another article
on the Russian case Tutuzdad linked.

http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-115834.html
http://www.hyperhistory.net/apwh/essays/cot/t0w13cannibalism.htm
http://blogcritics.org/archives/2005/11/18/151425.php

As an anecdote (true, but not documented here): In the early 1970s,
when Papua New Guinea was still under Australian administration, a
case of cannibalism was dismissed by the Australian judge on the
grounds that it was an accepted practice of the indigenous tribe, a
factor respected by the colonial adminstration.

Someday, you can tell us what you lecture about ...
