I want to learn MatLab without buying MatLab.  Should I learn Scilab or Octave?
In other words, which program Scilab or Octave should I use to learn MatLab?

My Computer Background:
1.  I'm a Linux (Debian) user.
2.  I code in Fortran 90/95 and C++.  I perfer Fortran 90/95.
3.  I'm an advanced Mathematica user.

Hi,
according to your background information, i would recommend Octave. 
Mainly because of these reasons:

1. it's closest clone to MatLab under unix environment.
2. differencies between MatLab and Octave are known or irrelevant
3. differencies can be reduced by users' configuration
