I'm looking for software that duplicates the functionality of the
Pixeltouch utility included with Matrox graphics cards but works with
any video card. Essentially, you press a hotkey to toggle a lower
resolution viewport of a portion of your whole desktop. For example
if your normal desktop is a 1600x1200 rectangle your monitor might
show an 800x600 portion of that desktop at a time. When your mouse
hits an edge of this 800x600 little box inside the 1600x1200 big box,
the screen scrolls over slightly. I have searched in vain using
combinations of "zoom", "magnifi-(-er,-cation,etc)", "utility",
"virtual desktop", "pixeltouch", and the like.

Utilities like this seem to be bundled in various video cards. Which
video card are you using now?

I am using ATI All-in-wonder Radeon. I think it's the same as Radeon
7200 driver-wise. All the stuff I've been able to find work like
this:
(1)virtual "physical" magnifying glass-- you drag a "lens" around the
screen using the mouse and it magnifies whatever is under it
(2)similar to the Magnifier accessibility tool that comes with Windows
2000 and XP -- a separate window on your screen that shows the area
around your mouse cursor, enlarged.
