I have a dillemma, I am running Windows XP with the latest edition of
iTunes. Whenever I come to play any music stored on my computer hard
drive server - the sound is always skipping making it very annoying.
However I can listen to the same music in Media Player or RealOne and
fine. I like iTunes because I have alot of purchased music over the
year and that's the only program that can open it. My question to any
and all - what am I missing or did I change any settings in iTunes to
cause this and if so what do I need to do for making the music
"streamlike"?

This post on the 3ivx forums suggests that you're not at all
alone, and that the solution has to do with Quicktime:

"In a nutshell, it's Quicktime that drives the sound for iTunes,
you've just gotta config the sound out to 'waveOut' instead of
 'Directsound' and reboot"

I won't post a formal answer until I know this has helped.
Let me know where this takes you...
