As time goes on, I find I am doing more gaming and my P3-800 with
Radeon 9250 and 1 gig memory just doesn't cut it anymore. Therefore I
am going to do a new build (and transfer most of my accessories over).
I have selected (3) ASUS boards to consider:
P4P800, P4P800E-Deluxe & P4C800E-Deluxe.Each seems to have the
necessary ports, etc for my activities. As for the new CPU I would
like to get as fast as possible while maintaining a limited budget. A
P4-2.4 is relatively inexpensive today and will probably work ok and a
P4-3.0 is a little more - $100 on Ebay. From what I can determine, as
long as I select a CPU in the allowable range of the board and keep
the same socket, I should be safe in my purchasing, but what is the
signifigance of "chipset" , if any, in my selection process? As a
backup question, what cpu (or range) would you select for my list of
boards? Any helpful advise in recommending a new package will be
greatly appreciated.
