Dear pauljames-ga;
Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question. Questions such as yours are difficult to answer since there
is no standard ?guide? to who is ?best?, ?greatest? or ?most
competent? in any field above all others. The information provided
here is certainly not intended to be a recommendation since we clearly
cannot do that in this forum, rather it is based on information
obtained strictly through careful research.
After looking into your question for quite some time it became
apparent that I was not going to be able to ignore the abundantly
impressive and prolific information about one physician in particular.
In the course of my research I repeatedly came across the name of
Professor Christer Rolf MD, PhD, Director of Sheffield Centre of
Sports Medicine, in Sheffield, UK as an uncontested leader in his
field of medicine. He is held my many high profile athletes and
trainers as one of the most competent and knowledgeable surgeons in
the country. His skills and expertise appear to be widely sought after
by the most discriminating patients worldwide (in particular,
celebrity sports figures and others whose careers depend directly on
the outcome of their surgery):
?Professor Christer G. Rolf is a renowned sports orthopaedic surgeon
from Sweden. He qualified for an MD at Umea University, Sweden in
1982, and a PhD in Sports Medicine in 1987, whilst pursuing a clinical
career in orthopaedics. He has a broad background in sports as an
athlete and coach, and has throughout his medical and academic studies
focused on sports medicine. He brought his clinical background to work
as a coach in a top ice-hockey team and as fitness trainer at a major
training institute in Sweden. For many years he was the Team Physician
for the Swedish National Teams in Orienteering and the Track and Field
areas of middle and long-distance running, physician for the Royal
Cullberg ballet and the Swedish national police force, and was
consultant for the Swedish Olympic Support.
In 1987 he was invited to a clinical post in the Department of
Orthopaedic Surgery at Huddinge University Hospital, Karolinska
Institutet, Stockholm, and became Associate Professor and Head of the
Sports Medicine Section, where he remained for the next ten years.
From 1997 to 2000 he worked as invited clinical chair in Orthopaedic
Sports Medicine at the Chinese University of Hongkong, developing the
clinical and academic centre of excellence in Sports Medicine. In May
2000 he was invited to his current position as founding clinical
Professor of Sports Medicine in the University of Sheffield and
Executive Clinical Director of the Sheffield Centre of Sports
Medicine, to lead the development of a unique academic and clinical
centre of excellence in Sports Medicine, the first of its kind in the
UK.
Professor Rolf served as a board member of the Swedish Society of
Sports Medicine from 1984 to 1996, and was made president of the
Society in 1994.
He is on the committee of a number of international bodies such as
ISAKOS (International Society of Knee and Sports Surgery), FIMS
(International Federation of Sports Medicine) and EFSM (European
Federation of Sports Medicine). He is shairmen of the Scientific and
Education Commission of ESFM. He is the Chairman of the Programme
Committee for the world congress of sports medicine in Beijing 2006.
He has published numerous scientific articles and books and has
lectured in the Sports Medicine field all over the world.
He is actively involved in research on the etiology and management of
sports injuries, with an experimental focus on tendon and ligament
disorders.
During his many years of work as an orthopaedic consultant, he has
specialised in the surgical treatment of sports related knee, shoulder
and ankle injuries, with a particular interest in arthroscopic
procedures. He treats numerous top athletes and recreational sports
people.?

It would be difficult to find a physician with better credential and
background that this one. In fact, I?ve no doubt that if this surgeon
isn?t the best in his field that he undoubtedly knows who is and will
more than gladly give you a personal referral if he is unable to tend
to your problem himself.
You will find dozens of highly acclaimed knew surgeons of the UK and
Europe at large using this directly which specifically offers the
credentials of notable orthopedic surgeons:

in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.
