I am currently looking at moving to Edgewater, NJ. I work in New York City and one of the things that attracted me to Edgewater is the proposed Ferry Service. However, the research I have done just leads me to the fact that the ferry project is stuck in red tape. My potential landlady assures me the ferry will open in the spring in 2006 however I have found no evidence to prove that. My question is as follows: When is the Edgewater ferry terminal due to open? What will the ferry route be? Approximatly how long will the ferry take? How frequently will the ferry travel? What are the price plans planned for the ferry? (I.e single trip, monthly pass cost etc) I appreciate any help you can give me with this question. If the ferry is not going to go ahead then iIwill not be moving. |

You are correct in not trusting your landlady and her answer. The ferry has been promised since 2002 and we have yet to see a single shovel of dirt turned on the property. Edgewater has yet to receive any grant money to commence construction, and has just recently contracted with a ferry operator and construction company and manager. Spring 2006 is VERY optimistic. If everything runs smoothly, which thus far it has not due to the incredible project and financial mismanagement provided by our current governing body until now, the earliest I can imagine taking that first ferry is late 2006. Also, you should know that the current price quoted by the operator for the Edgewater Ferry is $8.00 EACH WAY. However, you can still take the 158 bus for $3.10 each way (before monthly discount; otherwise $99 per monthly pass). From Veteran's field, it takes approximately 45 mins to get to Port Authority, depending on traffic. Hope this helps, good luck, and welcome to Edgewater. |
