Hi,
Best Web designer is a very subjective list, its like asking who are
the best artists or musicians in New York right now. So I stuck to
your criteria of peer-recognized and award winning, coming up with the

You might also be interested in the Webby Awards, though it is
difficult to find a "New York" company this way (Internet based
companies such as web designers and programmers rarely think or work
in terms of geographic location), but they are the primary awards for
Internet Website Design.

Another good place to view web designers and their work is on the CSS
Zen Garden website.

?Creative Good Inc. recently published a research paper reviewing 10
leading Web shopping sites. In the study, 39 percent of test shoppers
failed in their buying attempts because sites were too difficult to
navigate.?

?A recent report released by Creative Good [1] estimates that $6
billion was lost due to poor web experiences in 1999. A clear example
of the importance of usability was when IBM experienced a 400%
increase in sales after redesigning their web site with usability in
mind [2]. Combined with the fact that there are only around 250
million web users today [3] out of over 6 billion people, ease-of-use
is critically important as more and more novices get on the web.?

Looks like they run these sites as well.

Over all it appears that the following could be said of them: They
have some good, clear ideas about what designs work and what don?t,
They have been active in web design and quoted for their materials
since at least 1999, and they continue to be active, They have several
sights, clients and concepts that they can choose from.
It appears that this company could easily be placed inside the list I
gave you before. Something to keep in mind, is that a great many
designers and programmers on the web do not pay much attention to
things like awards, because you usually have to pay someone to be
included in them, or you buy them outright. Designers usually let
their work speak for itself. A good designer will have several
galleries and active/working websites to show you, and will be able to
tell you why they work, or what could be changed since the time they
were created to fine tune them.
Hope that helps,
Thanks,
