Did OPEC withold oil because the United States showed Israel
preferential status? I believe I read this in the Washington Post late
1972-73. Is it factual?

The book "The Prize" by Yergin does imply that OPEC was using oil
pricing and with-holding of production as a political tool to have
greater influence over the Middle East.  I recommend reading the book
- it is very long, but I think the best description of the history of
oil through modern days.
