Did OPEC withold oil because the United States showed Israel

The book "The Prize" by Yergin does imply that OPEC was using oil
pricing and with-holding of production as a political tool to have
greater influence over the Middle East. I recommend reading the book
- it is very long, but I think the best description of the history of
oil through modern days.
