I have a Tivo Series 2 DVR. I have a tv and a digital cable box. I have a spliter. I want to be able to watch one digital channel while recording another digital channel. I have a spliter, but still all I can do is watch limited analog channels while recording a digital channel. Can I set this up to watch one digital channel while recording another digital channel. If so, how do I set this up. |

I assume you have your system configured such that the cable box runs to your Tivo and on to your TV. Your splitter is attached upstream of the cable box with the second line running directly to your tv. You can set it up to have digital on both lines, but you will need to get another digital cable box from your cable provider. Using the splitter, you'd run one of the boxes through your Tivo, and the other digital box directly to your TV. Without the extra digital cable box you will only get analog on the feed you have running directly to the tv. The only other possibility is to see if your cable company offers a digital box that has two tuners built in. You would then run the cable feed directly to the cable box (no splitter involved) the box would split the siginal and give you two outputs, one you could run to the tv, the other to the Tivo. The problem with this is that many of the digital cable boxes that have this feature do so because they have a built in Digital Video Recorder (DVR). You'd probably end up paying for a DVR through your cable company when you already have a Tivo. This could be nice though if you requently run into issues where there are two programs that you would like to record at the same time. |

Thanks for your time and the info. I don't want to put big bucks into this. My cable box has an RF in and a cable in. I was thinking I might be able to run both of the cables from the splitter into the cable box. Then, the cable box has an RF out. I thought perhaps I if I ran the RF out to the TV, I might be able to get the digital channels that way. I only receive about 2 dozen analog channels. And the only way I can change the channel is to channel up or down. Still thanks for your time and help, hardia |
