According to WebMD, its not recommended that you use hypothyroid medication for weight loss. However, I believe it makes weight loss much easier. Many of the hypothyroid drugs on WebMD list weight loss as a side effect. |

Remember that we cannot give you medical advice (see disclaimer below). However, hypothyroidism is associated with gaining weight, and treatment of hypothyroidism with Levothyroxine (T4) will likely help you lose weight. BUT, this can only be prescribed by your doctor, and the normal T3 and T4 may make it unnecessary for you. Also remember that any drug can have side effects -- excess T4 can cause heart palpitations, tremor, diarrhea, etc. Summary: yes, treating hypothyroidism can help you lose weight, but you should see a doctor to determine if treatment is right for you. |

Yes, I am seeing my doctor this Monday. I am not looking for medical advice as in what I should do - but what is possible/most likely to occur. Just for clarification. :-) |
