I recently bought a Sony Mavica digital camera that uses 3.5 floppy to
store pictures. I know I can print them out on my computer. Just
curious if there's a place (WalMart, Target, Walgrens etc..)I can take
the disk and have them make my pictures in the same way as they do
with regular film. I basically bought this to upload pictures on the
net but a few i took I'd like made into regular photos and not
computer prints that I do.

nunthewizr,

Last year, when I was looking for the very same answer for myself, I
could find no local places to process my digital photos. I ended up
buying a good HP Photoprinter and glossy photo paper.

Then, I found the most wonderful online photo processing service, that
I highly recommend. Ofoto.com is an online photo processor who does
great work, for a fair price, and the pictures arrive in just a few
days. The last two orders I placed, both this month, were in my hands
3 days after placing my order. You never have to leave home, and you
can upload your pictures at your convenience, at any time of day or
night. What could be easier?

Once your pictures are on your computer, you simply upload them to
Ofoto. Ofoto will ask you to download a very small program from their
website, which enables you to easily see thumbnails of the pictures on
your computer. The program also lets you crop, color correct and
correct red eye.

The site is well designed, and easy to follow. Your photos go into an
"album" on Ofoto's site. Then you can chose which photos you want
processed, choosing the number of copies you want, and also the sizes
you want. One particularly nice feature of Ofoto is the resolution
determination. While choosing the photos you want to process, the
resolution is displayed, along with their recommendations for print
sizes. Some digital cameras don't take pictures of high enough
resolution to produce prints larger than 4x6. Ofoto will let you know,
thereby avoiding ordering (and paying) for a poor print.

Ofoto also lets you set up an address book of e-mail addresses. Then,
Ofoto will send an e-mail toanyone YOU select, inviting them to view
your pictures online. If your friends and family want to order their
own prints, they can. You albums are password protected as well.

Your pictures then reside on Ofoto’s server.(A great back up storage
idea). Of course, the originals are still on your computer. I have
had several hundred photos stored on Ofoto for over a year. Ofoto also
can burn your pictures to a cd in case you don't have your own
cd-burner. Prices are .49 per print, and once you are a customer,
they often e-mail “coupons” for special offers.
Visit their website here:

Another photo processing site is Shutterfly. Since I am so pleased
with Ofoto, I have never tried this site, but I have read good things
in PC magazines.

Wal-Mart does process digital “film”, but it appears that it is also
an online system.

We use ofoto as well, and I would like to second crabcake-ga's
recommendation. It's an excellent service. In fact, we decided to go
ahead and get a digital camera after learning what ofoto had to offer.

But there will be times when you need something fast! In my area
(Austin, TX), all Kinko's and Walgreens (not sure about any others)
have a "Kodak PictureMaker Kiosk" which will take your floppy directly
and allow you to print photos on Kodak paper. You can crop, zoom, pan,
and color correct your chosen shot, and then print in a variety of
size formats. It's expensive (around $7.00 per 8x10 sheet) but it's
great when you're in a hurry.

Here's more information, and a PictureMaker locator:

Happy shooting! :)
