Although the notorious mob snitch was charged very recently with a
20-year-old murder of a corrupt New York City cop, his extradition
from Arizona has been delayed. Until a flaw in the extradition
petition is corrected, he'll stay in the Maricopa County jail, where
the warden makes inmates wear rose-colored unmentionables under their
black and white-striped jumpers.

Address for Maricopa County Jail: 225 W. Madison Phoenix, AZ 85003
The Madison Street Jail opened on May 9, 1985 and was designed to
house 960 inmates, single-bunked, and includes all classifications of
inmates. The jail is approximately 397,000 square feet, or one city
block, and as tall as a ten story building.
Population:
The current population at Madison is more than 1,500 inmates and
houses all maximum security inmates in Maricopa County; juveniles
remanded to adult court; administratively segregated inmates
(protective custody); close custody inmates (super maximum security);
a psychiatric unit that is licensed by the state; and working inmates
assigned to Madison and downtown job sites.
Housing:
Inmates are housed on four levels (floors) in housing units. Each
housing unit has four pods, each pod holds up to 30 inmates (or 15
cells each) and each housing unit can hold up to 120 inmates at a
time. There are four housing units per level making the total
population per level up to 480 inmates. In the special management
units of Psychiatric and Close Custody, the inmates are single-bunked
only. Most inmates at Madison, however, share a cell with one other
inmate.
Inmate Services:
All inmates housed at Madison are considered pre-trial detainees (with
the exception of the sentenced working inmates). Pre-trial detainees
are allowed an hour of recreation six days a week; three one-half hour
family visits per week; weekly religious services including bible
study; and a variety of self-help programs such as GED, AA, etc. |
