I entitled this question, "Old War Movie", but in reality, it might
not be old. I only remember one scene. A couple of guys (squad,
platoon maybe) are walking, and one guy steps on a landmine. He hears
the audible click of the device, and freezes. In the meantime, his
buddies remain near for mutual support. One offers to relieve him of
his weapon so he can just stand. Instead the guy on the landmine
refuses, saying something along the lines of, "I might need the
weight."

Any help will be appreciated.

I recall a movie set in 'Nam or Korean where this takes place in
water. The mine is called a bounding antipersonnel mine and you can
(usually) tell when you have armed it-- but it detonates when your
weight it removed.

I think this would have been 1983-1986 time frame. I never saw
"Platoon"; Could it be "Heartbreak Ridge", maybe? Or could it have
been in "Full Metal Jacket"? Naw, not FMJ. Kubrick would have the
soldier locked in a one-on-one battle with the APM for two hours,
slowly losing his humanity while we grow sympathic with the mine.

Thanks for your comment. I know for a fact that it is not Platoon,
FMJ, or Heartbreak Ridge. I am quite familiar with all three
films...and your Kubrick comment made me laugh...

I associate that scene with "The Boys in Company C," but I can't
provide any proof other than my middle-aged memory, which sometimes
plays tricks on me.

I've read that the 2001 film "Behind Enemy Lines" has a scene
involving a pressure-release landmine, but I haven't seen this movie.
Just thought I'd mention it, in case it rings a bell in someone's
head.

Pinkfreud,

"Behind Enemy Lines" does have such a scene. However, in this case
the villian in the movie (an enemy sniper) leaves his buddy (who has
stepped on the mine) alone in the forest. A few seconds later you
hear the explosion.

I don't remember how my scene ends. I just remember his squad mates
were making a concerted effort to save him.

Thanks again,

The movie is "The Boys Of Company C". It is a VietNam movie from the
late 70's. The incident you are referring to is the "bouncin betty"
anti personnel mine. When detonated a "light" charge blows it straight
up approximately 2 to 3 feet and then the main charge goes off. Your
imagination can supply what happens then. What they were attempting to
do was keep as much weight as possible on the detonator plate so he
would be able to get off with out it exploding. I never heard of it
working. But, anyway, that is what they were referring to.
Hope this answers your question. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays

Mohair Sam,

Excellent! Thanks for confirming pinkfreuds earlier comment. I'll
definitely have to rent the movie.

Merry Christmas to you!
