Hello Thanks for your question. Unfortunately I don't think there's enough information online for us to give you much in the way of an answer, so I am sending these bits and pieces as a comment. As you may already know, the firm that made these machines was located in Poughkeepsie in New York State. "Other Poughkeepsie enterprises also achieved national and international renown during the second half of the 19th and the early part of the 20th century. Especially well known were Adriance, Platt & Company (agricultural machinery)" http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/specialsections/communities/poughkeepsie/story06.shtml There seems to be an excellent local history library in Poughkeepsie (called after an Adriance benefactor though I don't know if he was related to the binder manufacturers) and if I were you I would hope that one of the librarians might help you or put you in touch with a local historian who would be interested in your query. https://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=60667 Their address is: Adriance Memorial Library 93 Market Street Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 and they have an 'ask a librarian' form at: http://www.poklib.org/html/ask_a_librarian.php If you want to see pictures of an Adriance rear discharge binder in its heyday you'll find two posters of them are illustrated at: http://posters.barnesandnoble.com/search/results.asp?userid=3FAZNMW0KY&CAT=1001749&PCAT=1001545 The only other things I found on the net were occasional brief references to their mowers and reapers and one story of 'life on the farm' that has a brief mention of a binder: http://students.cs.byu.edu/~heath/family/white/c1849.htm scraps on Adriance: ://www.google.com/search?q=adriance+mowers+OR+reapers&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&start=10&sa=N Good luck with finding some answers. What a curious thing to unearth in the Highlands! I hope somebody in Poughkeepsie will also feel intrigued and dig more information out for you. |
