Dear apachemd-ga; Since you are agreeable to my information as an answer I am reposting my response in an effort to officially close your question: The portion of the Southern United States traditionally known as ?Dixie? is most commonly understood to be the region south of the Confederate survey known as the Mason-Dixon Line. MASON-DIXON LINE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mason-Dixon_line Here is a map of the area commonly referred to as ?Dixie?: WIKIPEDIA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Map_of_CSA_3.png I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any questions about my research please post a clarification request prior to rating the answer. I don't understand the question. The song's lyrics mention Memphis (Tennessee), Atlanta (Georgia), Jackson (Mississippi), Charlotte (North Carolina) and Fort Payne (Alabama). How much more specific could they be? http://www.metrolyrics.com/lyrics/25993/Alabama/Christmas_In_Dixie |

I think they are in Fort Wayne, Alabama, talking about what the weather (and state of mind) is probably like in the other cities. Look at the last verse... ..."And from Fort Wayne, Alabama..." The lyrics: CHRISTMAS IN DIXIE By now in New York City, there's snow on the ground And out in California, the sunshine's falling down And, maybe down in Memphis, Graceland's all in lights And in Atlanta, Georgia, there's peace on earth tonight Christmas in Dixie, it's snowin' in the pines Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight It's windy in Chicago. The kids are out of school There's magic in Motown. The city's on the move In Jackson, Mississippi, to Charlotte, Caroline And all across the nation, it's the peaceful Christmas time Christmas in Dixie, it's snowin' in the pines Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight And from Fort Wayne, Alabama God bless y'all...We love ya...Happy New Year...Good night Merry Christmas...Merry Christmas tonight It is a mite confusing though! |

True -- but where is "Dixie" itself? There are many cities named Dixie in the United States, and my girlfriend and I are trying to figure out which one Alabama is referring to??? |

"Dixie" is a term for the entire South. The song isn't about just one town. |
