Library and Information Sciences is basicly learning how to run a library. Collection development, administration, cataloging, research. There is a big focus on technology. Global libraries, online databases, copyright etc. You could do anything from running a public library, working specifcly with childrens materials, academic libraries, preservation, or work for consulting firms. The University of Illinois has one of the oldest and most respected programs in the country, it is consistantly ranked the #1 LIS school. Information on how other pograms compare is here: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/lib/libindex_brief.php |
