When I visited Israel this past August I stayed at the David Citadel
hotel. There was a fruit tray in the room that had figs lightly
stuffed with walnuts. The fruit was unlike any fig I've ever eaten, it
was sweet, chewy, almost like candy, and good-sized, slightly larger
than a piece of salt water taffy. Each one was nestled in a white
fluted paper, like a gourmet chocolate might be served(or at least
that's how I remember it!) In addition to knowing what the delicacy
was, I also need to know how to make arrangements to have some sent to
the US as a gift, in time to arrive before the end of the year. |

The Israeli figs were a deep, chocolate brown, chewy, irregularly
shaped, smaller than those pictured, no 'skin' and the walnuts were
either chopped and used to coat the outside, or chopped and embedded
in the fruit.
Hope this helps.
