I was only able to find one traveller's review mentioning this hotel
on the Tripadvisor website:
Traveler rating:
Medan: "Some Info on Medan"
Jan 5, 2005: A TripAdvisor Member, Malaysia
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g297725-r2977368-Medan_Sumatra.html
"Nice medium sized city. Top of the list as safest city to visit in
Indonesia. Nothing much to see in the city, except and old mosque and
a palace with some history behind it. City is clean by "indonesian
standards". You wont see many tourists around, mostly passing through
to Lake Toba."
"Hotels a bit pricey as compared to similar hotels in Jakarta. I would
rate the best as the Grand Angkasa Hotel. Definately a comfortable
stay. Among others at lower prices, i'd choose Best Western Asean
Hotel based on its location in town. Ideal for longer staying guests
as its located next to food shops, fastfood outlets and a supermarket
- convenient for all the "bottled water" u need to log back each day."
** For those wanting to spend just a weekend to check out the city, my
recommendation is to stay at the Danau Toba Hotel - its a small resort
within the city, best pool in town, clean big rooms, although a little
old. This is also just about the only place in town to check out for
some live music and dancing

Recently, the hotel has been home to tsunami relief workers from the
group, Samaritan's Purse:
From "With the aid of Samaritan's Purse, tsunami victims try to sort
through the devastation," by Rebeccah Cantley-Falk and Tonya Maxwell.
Citizen Times. February 8, 2005
http://citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050208/NEWS/50207002/0/NEWS01
"Among themselves, Samaritan?s Purse workers freely talk about their
faith and how God has moved in their lives. Workers staying at the
Hotel Danau Toba International in Medan pray together and have Bible
devotions each morning."
"The hotel is the home office for the organization in Indonesia.
Workers stay on the field in Meulaboh for weeks at a time, living in
village houses without running water or electricity. When another
worker can replace them, they come to the hotel, where they have beds
with clean sheets, showers and a breakfast buffet."
"The food is a mix of American breakfast items such as croissants,
eggs and cereal and Asian favorites, including a variety of spicy
noodles. One recent morning, Gary Lundstrom, international projects
director, talked about how he felt called into missions even as a
child."

In case you are travelling to Medan:
Read about North Sumatra and Medan:
http://www.emp.pdx.edu/htliono/sumut.html
"Hotels are concentrated in the provincial capital of Medan and in the
lake resort town of Parapat. Leading the list in Medan are Danau Toba
International and Tiara, both classified as four-star hotels. These
hotels have convention facilities, health centers, restaurants and
night clubs.

See map and information about Medan on the Geocities website:
http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Corridor/8339/medan.htm
"The gateway to this exotic region, Medan is a bustling port town,
replete with movie-style crowded market, seedy bars and shady
characters, but also broad avenues, first-class hotels and restaurants
- the fruits of Sumatra's broad-based economic development. From
humble beginnings as a small kingdom on the Deli River delta, Medan
became the capital of a powerful sultanate in the late 1800s, then
developed into booming plantation town during the early 1900s as
Sumatra's tobacco, rubber, palm oil and tea fetched high price on the
world markets. Post independence Medan has continued to grow into
Indonesia's largest city outside Java, with oil and industrial goods
added to the list of lucrative exports."
