Email Data Security: Do ISPs take backups of Email Inboxes for their
customers protection in the event of system software or hardware
failure, disaster, etc?

Generally, when we sign up for a paid Email Service with an ISP is it
industry practice to take precautions with our data and take regular
backups of the email servers?

Specifically, what is the practice at Verizon?

Is the question too vague?

>> General industry practices and/or specific Verizon practices. <<

Why is this moderately important?

With a recent magazine article recommending that readers upload copies
of their important data to a webmail account for a poor man's remote
backup, a cool man's mobile toobox or a business woman's web-based
presentation it seems fundamental to be assured that ISPs backup such
data. If the ISP server farm was in New Orleans when the levee broke
you *would* want them to have taken precautions and backup *your*
data, right? This is especially true for the *paid* webmail
accounts.

I currently work at an ISP, an I get a lot of customers who call and
say, "Hey iv'e deleted my email, is there any way to get it back?"
well i can't tell you if verizon make's back up copies of you're
email. I wouldn't think they do just because that would collide with
the privacy policy of the company. I guess conclusion is check verizon
privacy policy :P
