When I was young I loved a book about and Elephant on rollerskates.  I
think her name was Penelope.  Her family was tired of her and her
rollerskates.  I cannot remember the title or author but, can picture
her in my head.  Help!

Since we have no idea how old you are, "when I was young" doesn't
narrow things down much! Approximately when did you read the book? Any
additional clues may be helpful.

You're probably thinking of "Elephant on Wheels" (1974) by Alida McKay Tacher.

"Petunia the elephant loved to roller skate."
