I need solutions for cheap (under $10), homemade mosquito traps that
not only lure mosquitos away, but also exterminate them.

I already know of two, using dry ice, and using lemon scented
dishwashing detergant.

Can anyone help me find any more?
Thanks.

These also must be methods that work, and that have scientific basis
(although explanation is not required). Thanks!

DEET Chemistry - WHat you need to know
http://chemistry.about.com/cs/howthingswork/a/aa042703a.htm
..."f you live in an area with biting insects you have almost
certainly encountered an insect repellent that uses DEET as its active
ingredient. The chemical formula for DEET is
N,N-diethyl-3-methyl-benzamide (N,N-dimethyl-m-toluamide). DEET was
patented by the U.S. Army in 1946 for use in areas with heavy biting
insect infestation. It is a broad-spectrum repellent that is effective
against mosquitoes, flies, fleas, chiggers, and ticks. DEET has a good
safety record and is less toxic to birds and other mammals than many
other insect repellents, but all DEET products should be handled with
care..."

The 2 articles above make me lean away from actual mosquito traps or
nets. There are plenty to choose from though:

I found a great trap that is really cheap. (1) cut off the top of an
empty two litre bottle (like the normal round coke bottles). Cutting
just above the label is ideal. (2) Mix 50grams of brown sugar with
200ml of hot water and let it cool to 40 degrees celcius. (3) Add 1
gram of yeast (no need to stir) and replace the top of the cut bottle
upside down to create a funnel. (4) seal the sides of the container
and wrap with black paper.

Explanation: the fluid mix creates carbon dioxide which attracts
mosquitoes and the black wrap makes it dark to help attract them too.
the yeast will have the greatest affect at around 40 degrees celcius
and the sugar water will make the mosquitoes sticky so they can get
out. Mosquitoes are too dumb to realise where they came in from so
they will die inside. I got this from a website. Just google 'homemade
mosquito trap' and it should be on the first page.
