A friend and I are debating whether a line in a "Cam'ron" rap song
makes sense or not. The line is from "So Free" (with S.A.S.) on
Diplomatic Immunity 2.

The line is the last in the song and goes "In traffic, jammin with
pearl rims. It's magic- magician or Merlin".

The question is about the last line: If Cam'ron is describing his
pearl rims as magic, does magic apply to magician the same way it
applies to Merlin? Is Merlin a magician?

If you don't understand what I'm asking let me know, his part of the
song is very avant-garde so I recomend listening to it first.

Pretty much I'm trying to figure out if the line makes sense or not.
One of us thinks it does make sense, the other thinks it doesn't make
sense.

Merlin is certainly a magician. Probably the most famous magician in
all of western literature.

But my question is really trying to figure out if Cam'ron is comparing
magician once or twice to magic. Actually my friend and I now both see
each others sides and have agreed to disagree on this song. We are now
debating apples and oranges, I prefer oranges. We both have always
enjoyed "So Free" and for the record the sample is from "Woman In
Chains" by Tears For Fears. That song is also a good listen.

The problem here lies in your interpretation of what Cam'ron said,
these are the correct lyrics:

"in traffic jammin with pearl rims
its magic magician I'm Merlin"

The lyrics can be found at the Original Hip Hop Lyrics Archive:

This clarification makes a lot of sense now and this style of rapping
is very common of Cam'ron, kind of like the line in the song Shake
where he says
"And I got some girls, bout five or six
And a five and six, about five or six"

Believe me, you need to listen again. He clearly says "magician or
merlin". I know many rap lyric web sites print "I'm Merlin" but that
is not the line in the song. Lyric websites are a poor source for
intricate lyrics or less popular artists. I question where and how you
determined he's saying "I'm merlin" because in the song he clearly say
"...or Merlin."
