If you susupect someone else has your financial authentication data get it changed (may require a phone cal to the banks or a visit to their websites). Also get a statement of recent activity and challenge anything you don't recognise. Also confirm that all account details - including your address and email addresses - are unchanged. Now the harder problem - what if someone in the shop changed something on your PC? For all you know your passwords could be captured when you type them and be emailed to someone. Unless you prepared beforehand with some sort of record of your drive the only sure thing to do is a complete reinstall. You might think that's too drastic unless you see signs of interference. |

This is not the answer you're looking for, this is a workaround, hence, I'm not posting this information as an official answer. I'm hoping someone will answer it so I can protect myself too! What I do, is this: ********************************************************** 1) I repair my own computer. I learned how here: VirtualDr.com http://www.virtualdr.com I recommended the site in a comment at this question: Subject: a free website in teaching pc repair cost free http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=603437 Read the comment to see how they can help you learn to repair your own computer. ********************************************************** 2) I also use a keylogger that records ALL keystrokes and ALL activity on my computer by all users. I use this one: SC Keylogger Pro (there is a free version that does not run in stealth) http://www.soft-central.net/keylogger/pro.php The keylogger just keeps honest people honest, it won't stop thieves. I review the log files periodically to determine if people are looking at things they should not be accessing. When they do, I show them the log file and tell them to stop. It's very effective. In your case, if you had this installed, you wouldn't have to wonder what these folks did on your computer, it would show every single move they made, every file accessed, every keystroke. ********************************************************** Like I said, this is a workaround, not the way to protect yourself. I'm hoping for an answer as much as you are. ~~Cynthia |
