Question ID: 608333
I would like a list of 40 software companies in the lesser Tokyo area
that have Western ties or are a Western company. To further qualify my
requested results, I would like the list restricted to companies that:

- Have software development or software engineering offices in one of
the 23 wards of Tokyo. I would prefer they were roughly within the
Yamanote (JR) line, i.e. in Bunkyo-ku, Shinjuku-ku, Chiyoda-ku,
Shibuya-ku, Chuo-ku, Taito-ku.
- Are owned or operated by Westerners, e.g. from the U.K., western
European countries, Canada, U.S.
- Actively engaged in business. They must still exist and operate as a company.

To define ?company,? I am referring to any public or privately held,
for profit organization that conducts business. Example abbreviations
include AG, Inc, LLC.

To explain ?software development or software engineering,? I am
referring to companies or divisions of a company whose primary product
is software, software services, or software consulting. The company
may be a hybrid hardware / software company that only has a business
unit (division) doing software development in Tokyo. This
qualification thus EXCLUDES companies that specialize in IT support,
e.g. Unix administration, or focus solely on hardware, e.g.
microprocessor design. However, a company that creates Unix SOFTWARE
fits this qualification.

Since I am looking for Western owned or operated companies, I expect
that most web site results will be in English, but Japanese-only web
sites are also acceptable.

The format of the list and the data required are as follows:
Company name
Web site
Link indicating software development offices in Tokyo
(i.e. why you put it on the list)
Address
(quarter and ward are sufficient, address numbers are unnecessary)

CORRECT Example:
Google
www.google.co.jp
http://www.japantoday.com/e/?content=executive&id=135
26-1 Sakuragaoka-cho, Shibuya-ku

INCORRECT Example:
Toshiba
www.toshiba.co.jp
??
1-1-1, Shibaura, Minato-ku
* This example is ?incorrect? because Toshiba does not have software
development offices in Japan that are owned or operated by Westerners.
Toshiba?s Japanese headquarters are owned and operated by Japanese.
Also, Toshiba?s Japanese division creates some software but primarily
produces hardware.

INCORRECT Example:
BEA
jp.bea.com
??
2-10-1 Toranomon, Minato-ku
* This example is ?incorrect? because BEA?s software development
offices are in San Francisco, San Jose, Boston, Boulder, and Beijing.
Their Japan offices are a satellite sales and support office.

A week has passed with no sign of an answer. Is this question too much work?

This question is outside my areas of expertise, but it seems likely
that the reason you haven't received an answer is that compiling a
list of 40 companies that meet all your requirements is a very
daunting task which could take several days, if not weeks. Possibly
paring down the size of the list to something more manageable would
help.

In light of that, I'll pay $100 for a list of 24 companies according
to the restrictions above.

I think I could find 10 or so after several hours of google searching,
which is why I'm not paring down the list further. It's the list of
the 14 additional, less obvious, companies (totaling 24) that I'm
really after.

[FYI I posted this clarification 12/30/2005 but when I checked on
12/31, the post was lost.]
