Double click the yellow speaker in your system tray and a volume
control panel will open. Make sure (a) that there are no check marks
on the "mute" areas, and (b) that all the volume slides are all the
way up.

Let me know if this helps.

No - thanks for your help but there is no yellow loudspeaker in my
system tray like on the other computers - its as if it has not been
insalled, but when I went to windows setup multimedia the speakers are
ticked, so I dont know why this one is not working? Perhaps I have to
run the motherboard setup to see if sound it on????

Hmm - motherboard is out of my league. The question remains open.
Hopefully someone who is more familiar with such things will pop in
and assist you.

Good luck

Hi leetim,

Try this, it should take less than 5 minutes.

Go To:

START - PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - ENTERTAINMENT

Look for something called VOLUME CONTROL, open it and select OPTIONS,
next, select PROPERTIES and make sure "PC Speaker" and "MASTER VOLUME"
are both checked.

Does this work for you?

I tried that but they were not there at all. Had to computer to a tech
and he said software was not installed and did so - thanks for your
help anyway - now at least I know where to go if little yellow speaker
is not on my system tray!

It could be a sound card driver problem too. Go to the device
manager, sound video and game controllers. If you seen any yellow
question marks then the driver for those devices is inoperable. If
you see your sound card on the list double click it. Select the
driver tab and update driver. If you don't have the driver files
readily available you could possibly get them at driverguide.com.
Username drivers, password all.
