I (u.s. citizen) married a local korean woman in s.korea. although the wedding ceremony took place about 7 months ago, she and I never took steps to get the marriage license from the u.s. embassy in seoul. Now, we?re planning to split up. I prefer to resolve this without going through the korean family court, but if I do and the court finds me responsible for some amount of money to be paid to her? I am wondering whether the verdict is enforceable when I relocate to U.S. That is, it?s very likely that I?d be back in U.S. while the court proceeding is going on in the korean family court. My (local korean) lawyer tells me that if the verdict to pay my ex-wife money is delivered in korea, then she can contact the u.s. family court (in the state where I reside) and enforce the verdict?. Is this true and if so how realistic/complicated is it? Do you know the directory or the list of U.S. lawyers in south korea whom I can contact to discuss this matter? Thank you. |

This is a free comment and not an "answer" to your question. This site from the US Consulate lists Korean lawyers with US experience, as you can see from the profiles on each: http://usembassy.state.gov/seoul/wwwh3421l.html I hope this helps, good luck. |
