Scanning Problems - Windows XP - Adobe Acrobat doesn't work, Adobe Photoshop does

Software Program of issue: Adobe Acrobat 6.0
Hardware: Brother MFC 8500
OS: Windows XP sp2

My scanner has been working like a champ for over a year now, but
today when I went to scan a document in Adobe Acrobat 6.0 I got the
following error:
?Error while interacting with the scanner: The selected scanner was not found?

I?ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Acrobat, My scanner, it?s
drivers a number of times without any luck.

When I try to scan using Adobe Photoshop or through the Windows
Camera/Scanner wizard everything works fine, but I need my scanner to
work in Acrobat for business. I also noted that the scanner does not
work in PaperPort.

The only hardware change that I can think of was the addition of my HP
Photosmart 8250 color printer.

Hi,

Update the drivers of the Brother MFC 8500 scanner to be compatible
with Windows XP SP2. Also, download the latest Windows critical
updates.

Hope this works.

I actually found a solution on my own - hopefully this helps someone else.

I first downloaded the trial version of Acrobat 7.0 and removed
Acrobat 6.0. I tested scanning and it worked!

I then proceeded to uninstall the Acrobat 7 trial version and
reinstall the 6.0 version I own - everything is working just fine.
